How it works

What is a pip?

A pip is the standard unit for price moves in forex. For most pairs it's the fourth decimal place (0.0001). For pairs with the Japanese yen it's the second (0.01).

What is a lot?

A standard lot is 100,000 units of the first currency in the pair. A mini lot is 0.1 (10,000 units) and a micro lot is 0.01 (1,000 units).

Why position size matters

Many traders risk only 1 to 2% of their account on a single trade. The position size calculator tells you how many lots to trade so that hitting your stop loss costs exactly that amount.
