News trading rules at prop firms

Big economic releases, like US jobs numbers or inflation, can move prices sharply in seconds. Because of that, many prop firms limit trading right around high-impact news.

How the rules usually work

  • There's a window around each high-impact event, such as 2 minutes or 5 minutes before and after.
  • During that window you usually can't open or close trades on the affected instruments (some firms only block new orders). Some firms remove the profit from those trades instead of failing the account.
  • Often the rule only applies once you're funded, not during the challenge.

What the firms we track allow

FirmNews trading
FTMOAllowed with limits. News and weekend holds are fine during the challenge phases and on Swing accounts. Standard funded accounts can't trade 2 minutes before or after major news or hold over weekends.
The5%ersAllowed with limits. High Stakes bans trades 2 minutes before or after high-impact news; Hyper Growth allows news trading.
E8 MarketsAllowed with limits. E8 One bans trading 5 minutes before and after high-impact news once funded; E8 Pro allows news trading.

Rules checked on each firm's own site (Oct 22, 2026, Oct 24, 2026). Rules change often, so check before you buy.
